We’re heading to Tasmania in partnership with Cyclist Australia magazine for this all-new Hors Catégorie trip. Hors Catégorie trips are designed to be more challenging than our regular seasonal trips.
We’ve planned a four-day adventure that captures the very best of Tasmania’s remote Central Highlands and north east. You’ll ride through a variety of environments and landscapes. We’ll sometimes take the gravel road, and discover secrets of this magic island. Marcus Enno (or Beardy) will join us to take photos.
On Thursday morning you’ll arrive at Launceston airport and be picked up in a private shuttle to our Grand Départ venue. We’ll have a brunch whilst your bikes are being built by our mechanic. We’ll kit up and ride 100km to our first night’s accommodation, a newly renovated Antarctic Division research lodge on the remote Central Highlands plateau. You’ll check in and shower before a well-deserved gourmet dinner washed down with craft beer or local whiskey.
On Friday you’ll wake to witness the morning light over the Central Plateau and Great Lakes district. After breakfast, we’ll ride 120km to our hotel beside the Tamar River via an entirely different route. This mostly downhill run to Launceston will be a hoot.
Saturday’s ride, the Queen Stage, takes us to the spectacular Ben Lomond National Park to summit the iconic Jacob’s Ladder. This 160km loop racks up 3500m of climbing and takes in the very best of the north-east. On Saturday night we’ll have a special Queen Stage dinner with all the trimmings.
On Sunday morning we’ll go for an easy ride along the Tamar river and stop in at a local cafe, followed by a late checkout and lunch. We’ll service and pack your bike, and drop you off at the airport.
Each day you’ll enjoy a continental breakfast before your ride, a catered picnic or cafe stop mid-ride, followed by freshly prepared lunches and dinners, washed down with local beer and wine, or mineral water. Our seasonal menu will highlight the region’s finest produce and your dietary requirements and preferences will be catered for.
All rides will be fully supported by two experienced guides, support vehicle, mechanic, spares fleet and ‘Beardy’. We’ll build and pack your bike for travel and it will be washed and serviced each day. You’ll experience pro-style treatment including remedial massage. Your only job is to just enjoy the adventure.
